Portrait in oils of Sir Alexander Burnes (1805-1841), exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1835, by William Brockedon (1787-1854).

Sir Alexander Burnes was awarded the Royal Premium (50 guineas) in 1834 for exploration on the Indus and in Central Asia; he was killed at Cabul at the outbreak of the Afghan War.
